As part of our Spring 1 theme of “Famous artists – shape and colour”, the Themes classes of Calder, Wenning and Yarrow had a very special visitor into school on Monday 2nd February 2026.
Winston Plowes is a land artist, based in Hebden Bridge, who came to spend the day helping us to “create” using natural materials and objects from our local area. He explained a little of how he makes his art and then we all had opportunity to explore the materials – leaves, pebbles, bark, twigs – in a sensory way and then to use them to make some art work.
The students created artwork by manipulating clay into various moulds, rolling an avocado stone through charcoal to form lined patterns, arranging natural materials in a horizontal line, and experimenting with many other creative techniques.
The students really enjoyed their time with Win and everyone joined in over the day.
