PCHS&C are OUTSTANDING in all areas – Ofsted 2017

Our Governors

At Pendle Community High School and College we are very lucky to have a strong and active Board of Governors. Our Governors act as our critical friends supporting the work of the school whilst questioning impact of our actions. Our Governors regularly meet with key teaching members of staff to discuss policy and the progress the pupils are making and take the opportunities to ‘walk’ the school observing daily life.

Governors meet once a term as a whole Governing body and once a term in the subcommittees:
– Finance & Resources

School Effectiveness Sub-committees:
– Leadership & Management
– Quality Teaching, Learning, Assessment, Outcomes
– Positive Development, Behaviour and Welfare
– Post 16 Study Programmes

Governors support the school in appointing new staff and attending school events and celebrations. Governors come from all walks of life and represent our diverse population and community. If you would like to find out more about being a Parent Governor please contact the school.

I have been a Governor at the school since its establishment in August 2005 and previously at Gibfield School when my daughter became a student in 1992. I have been Chair of Governors since the school was renamed Pendle Community High School & College.

Outside of school, I was a Senior Lecturer in Leisure, Tourism and Public Services for 23 years at Nelson and Colne College. I have also worked as an administrator for Morrison’s Supermarket. I am an avid Burnley FC supporter and enjoy many other sports.

Trevor Ashton

Chair of Governors, Term end date: 21.10.2022

I have been a governor at the school since October 2011, after taking early retirement from work. I worked for Lancashire Young People’s Service as a Youth & Community Worker and as part of my responsibility helped to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Schools. Upon my retirement I was delighted to be asked to join the governing body of PCHS&C. I am Vice Chair and also Chair of the Finance & Resources Committee. I am the nominated governor for Vocational Studies.

Ken Simmons

Vice Chair of Governors, Term end date: 21.10.2022

Before my appointment as Headteacher and governor of PCHS&C in September 2016, I have had two aspects to my career. The first was in teaching, initially as a primary school teacher and SENCO and most latterly as Headteacher and Deputy Head of two different special schools. Secondly, I have trained and practiced as an Educational Psychologist, the final six years of which I was Principal Educational Psychologist and Head of Service for a large Local Authority in Yorkshire.

In addition to my experience of governance during my roles as Headteacher and Deputy Head, I have also been a parent governor of a mainstream secondary school and staff governor of a mainstream primary school. In my current role I also fulfill the roles of governor of Pendle View Primary School and Pendle Vale College.

Outside of school I spend a lot of time restoring the old farm house in which we live, in addition to socialising with family and friends, walking, gardening and reading.

Chris Lingard

Headteacher of PCHS&C, Term end date: 31.08.2020

I was appointed as Headteacher of Pendle View Primary School in September 2016 having been the Deputy Headteacher for 8 years. I have worked collaboratively with staff and pupils from PCHS&C since 2008 and I am now delighted to be on the school’s Governing Body. I thoroughly enjoy visiting PCHS&C and seeing how settled our former students are. They are always keen to tell me how they are doing and how happy they are.

I am the link Governor for English and AAC / Communication and working alongside the staff and students my aim is to promote outstanding AAC / Communication provision for all pupils within the school. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and relaxing at home.

Fran Clayton

Co-Opted Governor, Term end date: 01.09.2020

In my work capacity I have been affiliated to the school and college as YPS SEN worker. My role has involved working and supporting young people with special educational needs and their families in making informed decisions about their future and then continuing to support the young person during their transitional years into adult life.

I have always enjoyed working in the school and college, alongside staff who have a true passion and drive for making a positive difference in the lives of young people. I feel very pleased to be a governor and I have a strong belief in the Pendle Community High School and College ethos. Everyone is made to feel welcome and part of the community family.

Saima Tariq

Co-Opted Governor, Term end date: 01.12.2021

I am an ex local councillor and sole owner of Boothman Park in Barley. I am involved with a wide range of local community groups including the local Community and Voluntary Sector. I have previously worked in international development – including facilitating the ‘Feed the World’ programme, so also have an in-depth knowledge of finance and resources. I am not a governor at any other educational establishment. I am the sole owner of Boothman Park Estates, which is a local business, which is a holiday complex located in Pendle.

Frank Wren

Co-Opted Governor, Term end date: 01.01.2021

I am currently working as a Senior Special Needs School Nurse in the Burnley and Pendle Special Schools. I sit on the Curriculum Committee and I am the link Governor for PSHE and Citizenship. I am not a governor at any other educational establishment.

I have been a nurse for over thirty years, initially working on the children’s ward. I have worked with children with additional needs for the last fifteen years and have had considerable experience in the safeguarding area. I am due to retire within the next twelve months which will allow me to dedicate time to being a governor. I am also a foster carer for LCC and have experience of fostering children with special educational needs.

Angela Ansley

Co-Opted Governor, Term end date: 10.07.2020

I have worked at Pendle Community High School and College since September 2004 and in 2016 I was elected to be the staff governor. I am currently teaching the PE curriculum across both the school and college, where all learners’ are encouraged to achieve their full potential. I feel that it is essential to have a member of staff on the Governing Body who has experienced the school developing and be a part of enabling difference. I am so pleased to have been chosen to represent our community.

Nicki Dean

Staff Governor, Term end date: 01.09.2020

I was appointed as a co-opted Governor to the Governing Body in the summer of 2014. As Headteacher of the co-located school Pendle Vale College, I have enjoyed a fantastic relationship with the staff and students of Pendle Community High School & College over the eight years we have been together in this fantastic building and Campus.  I sit on the Finance & Resources Committee and I am the nominated link Governor for Mathematics/Numeracy and MFL. I am also a Governor of Pendle Vale College, Barrowford Primary, Coal Clough Academy and The Alternative School.

Something that is not common knowledge is that I am a twin. One Mr Wilson works Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the second Mr Wilson works Thursday and Friday.

I have already struck up a strong and positive working relationship with Mrs Lingard and I look forward to us strengthening the already great links between our two schools.

Steve Wilson

Co-Opted Governor, Term end date: 21.10.2021

I feel privileged to have been voted as parent governor to our outstanding school & college PCHS&C and look forward to enjoying an active role as part of the governing body. I am a mother of four children, my eldest son is currently at university and my other two daughters plan to go this year. My youngest daughter is in year 9 at PCHS&C and is a member of the school council.

I have worked in a variety of industries and spent a period working as a nanny in Italy, prior to starting my own family. I have since worked as a staff nurse for 23 years in all areas of the hospital and currently work across East Lancashire Trust in the trauma/orthopaedic division. I have previously served as a school governor at Worsthorne County Primary School and was also actively involved with the church and hope to contribute my past experience to the school.

In my spare time I enjoy quality family time .

Tracy Tillotson

I am a parent of a child in Year 9, who moved to PCHSC at the end of Year 7. I work as a specialist teacher in social, emotional and mental health in North Yorkshire, working with schools to effectively support children and better understand and meet their needs. I have a passion for ensuring support mechanisms work as effectively and efficiently as they can for the child and school.
