The Life Skills Café has been established as an open-access, welcoming space where local residents can access practical support, guidance and encouragement before challenges reach crisis point. Our aim is to create a trusted community resource that helps people build resilience, improve wellbeing and develop the confidence and skills to navigate everyday life. The pilot will run every Monday until March 2027 and is built around three key objectives:
-
To provide a trusted, welcoming community space where people feel comfortable seeking support without appointments or referrals.
-
To develop strong partnership working by bringing together local organisations to offer coordinated advice, guidance and support.
-
To deliver practical, preventative support covering areas such as money management, benefits, debt, healthy living, mental wellbeing, digital inclusion, employment, housing, confidence building and community connection.
We’re pleased that, during this first phase, we’re already working alongside:
-
Citizens Advice
-
Christians Against Poverty (CAP)
-
Pendle Primary Care Network
This is very much the beginning of what we hope will become a genuinely collaborative community resource. We recognise that no single organisation can meet every need and we’re keen to develop partnerships that make it easier for local people to access the right support at the right time. The Life Skills Café operates every Monday at the Pavilion Community Hub & Café, Victoria Park, Nelson. You are welcome to drop in at any time to meet the team, learn more about the project and explore opportunities to work together.
