POSITIVE PHYSICAL & MENTAL

At PCHS&C all pupils are taught, at an appropriate level for their understanding, the knowledge about healthy eating, physical health and fitness which supports them to make good decisions about their physical health. This is supported through our curriculum drivers, subjects, specialist services and ample opportunities for pupils to be active during the school day.

Examples include:

  • Associated subjects e.g. Cooking, PSHE, PE, PD
  • Facts and risks of drugs, alcohol and tobacco
  • Assembly program
  • Lunch time and after school clubs
  • Extended timetabled clubs which offer longer sessions e.g. hydro, fitness gym, team games
  • Basic First aid training
  • Erasmus project – MOVE (Every Move counts) 2020-2023
  • Nurse led assemblies including topics such as weight loss, oral hygiene and sun protection.
  • School nurse checks – height, weight, immunisations, vaccinations
  • Wheelchair clinics, paediatrician clinics on site
  • Additional specialist input for good health e.g. OT, Physio
  • Eye care specialist
  • Daily, speech and language and physio programmes, where appropriate.
