Our curriculum is enriched in many different ways including themed days, puzzle mornings and celebrating special events. As learning does not only take place within a classroom, there is also an extensive programme of experiences that help bring learning to life.

We offer a wide and varied choice of after school and lunch time clubs. These can vary term to term but have included ICT, singing and signing, hair and beauty, fitness, team sports, lego therapy, art therapy, gardening, drama, scouts and much more.

We have regular guest speakers visiting such as olympic athletes, local religious leaders, local dignitaries, the police and many more who share their experiences in lessons or through whole school assemblies.

As part of our 14-19 curriculum, students have worked with local firefighters, tackled the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze & Silver Awards, tried their hand at office skills, horticulture, mini enterprise and organised special events such as the christmas fair and the leavers’ prom.

We aim to provide all of our students with as many exciting and new opportunities and experiences to enhance their learning, development and enjoyment of school.

Forest School & Outdoor Education

Forest School is an ethos dedicated to outdoor learning, drawing on practises from Scandinavian education which aims to facilitate holistic development and reconnect people with nature. At Forest School the learners social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual development is valued equally. Forest School provides a safe, non-judgmental and nurturing environment allowing children to develop their confidence, resilience and self-esteem. Learning at Forest School is hands on, experiential and learner led. Leaners are encouraged to explore their innate interests and desires, take some supported risks and solve problems.

As well as supporting learning, the Forest School approach supports student’s health and well-being through spending time in nature. There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating the positive impact spending time in the outdoors has on both our brains and our bodies. Finally, experiencing meaningful, memorable and joyful experiences in the outdoors means participants are more likely to develop an affinity with the outdoors and care for it in later life.
